Sorry I am just now noticing your response from Feb 2021. So it appears I simply forgot to add more context to the solution response. All issues with the Python not updating layers with joins and saving the Pro projects were fixed after I updated from Pro 2.3.3 to 2.4.1. Something in the Pro update fixed the issues. I will edit my solution response to reflect this as well. I am currently running Pro 2.7.1 and have not tested this out in that version to ensure it still works with no issues. I will say our organization is just now needing to utilize this Python for our Pro projects in our dev environment. We will know for sure soon if this Python works like we need it to. If anything needs to be changed I will let you know.

Currently when connecting to my Portal within ArcGIS Pro (2.5.2), there doesn't appear to be any way to sort Portal group items within the Catalog Pane. I understand you can sort a group's items via the Catalog View, but the having the ability to sort via the Pane would make life a lot easier and would make a lot of sense. Also when viewing a Portal group's content within the Catalog Pane, it would be nice to be able to use the Search bar to search for items within the group itself, instead of the Search bar only being used to search for groups within the Portal. Does anyone know if either one of these basic functions are planned for ArcGIS Pro in the future?

I haven't really compared the two performance wise. If we move forward with Portal web services in Pro projects, to my understanding we would not have to mess with the Pro projects at all. Instead all we will have to do is update the registered data stores (within ArcGIS Server) used in each service and restart/republish the service. Once we do that, all of the Pro projects should pick up the changes, since they would all be using web services as layers instead of SDE direct connections.

Is there currently anyway to disable the import map button within ArcGIS Pro? My organization is about to begin rolling out ArcGIS Pro to all of our ArcMap users. Our plan is to have those users create new Pro projects that utilize our web services within our Portal, instead of importing their old mxd files that contain layers using SDE connection files to our enterprise geodatabase (which runs within Oracle 12c). This method would prevent us from having to go back and run a Python script on all of our customers' mxd files to update the data source information after our database accounts passwords are updated. Are there any registry keys we can set to disable this functionality with the install package we set up for our organization? If this functionality doesn't exist currently, does anyone know if this might be added in a future release of Pro? For reference I am currently using ArcGIS Pro 2.5.1.

According to this ESRI article, Overwrite a web layer, it appears that only the owner of a web layer can overwrite it within ArcGIS Pro. This seems like this could be problematic for our GIS team at my organization. We currently run ArcGIS Enterprise 10.6.1 (federated) and I am one of the Portal administrators. We have a small number of Portal admins that need to be able to republish/overwrite any of our map services whenever necessary to help support our GIS team's web apps. Why doesn't a Portal administrator have the ability to overwrite all web layers within Pro? Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the overwrite a web layer tool essentially the same as republishing a map service within ArcMap? We republish each other's services all the time within ArcMap, so I assumed the functionality would be there in Pro by now. The only workaround I see currently is to go into Portal and change the owner of a web layer to myself, which then gives me the ability to overwrite the web layer within Pro. Is that the only solution right now? Any idea if this will change in future releases of ArcGIS Pro?

Hey Chase! It has been extremely difficult to pinpoint the cause of this issue. I had worked with ESRI tech support for a few weeks awhile back and we both could not figure out the reasoning behind it. What I ended up doing was putting in an additional if statement in my Python script to check a layer's workspacePath for keywords (like 'APPDATA', 'LOCAL', 'TEMP', '.SDE') that would match that odd temporary SDE file path. Once I had that layer captured in that if statement, I assigned it to one of our updated SDE files. This meant all of those temporary SDE paths would end up being reassigned to the same SDE file. This isn't ideal because I would like for them to match up with the account used previously, but it was the best solution I could come up with. Hopefully this helps!
