Start with Portal (it will take the longest) --> run the recommended patches by selecting 'Install All Patches' this will open a menu of all the patches with checkboxes and you can select which patches to install. 3) Run the same steps above for ArcGIS Data Store and ArcGIS Server 4) After all patches have completed --> Restart the software components from 'Services' --No need to restart the servers themselves! Just the services. 5) Run systems checks on ArcGIS Enterprise. I usually test that I can launch apps with both (hosted) layers and layers referencing registered datastores. Additionally, I will check that I can publish to ArcGIS Enterprise. --Note: Portal can take up to 10 mins to spin back up. Be patient. Here is a recent Esri article that I found very helpful as well: Patch and release – you don’t have to fish for those ArcGIS Enterprise updates (esri.com) Happy Patching!! -->
你好!Yes, there are best practices for patching and I was provided these by Esri Technical Support. In short, the order doesn't matter. But I always start with Portal as it will take the longest (guidance from Esri and now my experience). For myself, I check 'ArcGIS Enterprise Patch Notification' roughly every 2 months for new patches. This can be found by searching on the server start menu. 1) Access 'Services' menu in Windows and stop the different services for the software components of your ArcGIS Enterprise. I.e. Portal for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Data Store, & ArcGIS Server - If you are in a multi-tier deployment you will need to stop each service on each VM. Stopping the services prior to running the patches is not necessary, but will ensure they install faster. 2) Open 'Check for ArcGIS Enterprise Patches' --> Start with Portal (it will take the longest) --> run the recommended patches by selecting 'Install All Patches' this will open a menu of all the patches with checkboxes and you can select which patches to install. 3) Run the same steps above for ArcGIS Data Store and ArcGIS Server 4) After all patches have completed --> Restart the software components from 'Services' --No need to restart the servers themselves! I have experienced this behavior before and it is usually due to SQL permissions. May I please inquire: what database connection are you using to delete the layer? i.e. are you using the connection who is the data owner to that layer?

This question was asked last year. Please see the below link to the original GeoNet post. Solved: Arc GIS Pro and ProjectWise Connection - Esri Community I wanted to kindly circle back and inquire: are the responses in the solution still current, or is there a plan to offer a connection to ProjectWise with ArcGIS Pro?

你好!我可以请第二JayantaPoddar所said here with reference to accessing and working directly with ArcGIS Enterprise. Their advice is sound. However there are some additional resources I'd like to provide as they helped me along the way in my current role as an Enterprise GIS Systems Administrator. First, you say you are interested in Geographical Databases. I would recommend studying and understanding a file geodatabase first. Consider the data and architect schema properly. An Enterprise Database (SDE) functions similarly to a file geodatabase in the Desktop software. Of course, it's what's behind the scenes that truly makes them special and that multiple users can access at the same time. Perhaps research a bit about SQL or Oracle as these are platforms that can be used for Enterprise Databases. As a systems administrator our server resources (ArcGIS Server) are always at the forefront of my mind. In order to convey these resources to GIS Publishers I use some of the links below. Introducing shared instances in ArcGIS Server (esri.com) - This one is great for visualizing and understanding ArcSOC processes. Configure a map service—ArcGIS Pro | Documentation - Overviews some of the steps for online map services Best Practices for Publishing Services, Layers, and Maps (esri.com) - Another best practices resource Best practices for hosted layer publishers—Portal for ArcGIS | Documentation for ArcGIS Enterprise - Last but not least best practices for Hosted layers - this is another component of Enterprise. Paid Training Resources from Esri: Deploying and Maintaining a Multiuser Geodatabase | Esri Training Instructor-Led Course ArcGIS Enterprise: Administration Workflows | Esri Training Instructor-Led Course I provided quite a few Best Practice resources here and wanted to touch on why. Esri best practices are best practices because, when implemented, they ensure the systems run as smoothly as possible. Best practices are essential to keep at the forefront of your mind when learning ArcGIS Enterprise.

To my knowledge the best solution is to take down and republish the service. I have received guidance from ESRI that this is best practice wherever possible. Overwriting a server can at times cause odd behavior. The reason for this is the service definition that is published when the service goes up to the server. There are ways to update the service definition. But, if it were me I would republish. Out of curiosity are there a quite a few services referencing this registered folder?

我们有一个非常usef自动化通过pythonul and we are currently working on improvements to the script. The script outputs an MXD figure from a master figure template and a PDF from the MXD. The improvement request has been to add authoritative layers to the Figures. For example: USGS Geologic Layer. So, I added the USGS Geology to the master MXD template that the script references and saved. When the script runs, it executes successfully. But the link to the USGS Geology layer is broken during the process. So, the output MXD shows the red exclamation point. Therefore the PDF exported doesn't feature the USGS Geology layer either. I have tested this with a shapefile, feature class, and layer file. The result is always the same. I've been doing quite a bit of reading and wondering if I need to add another function to the python script that will add the layer file to the MXD during the process. That way the link will not break. I'm not certain if there may be something I missed. So, I wanted to kindly reach out to this community. Would anyone here have an idea of how this could be successfully executed?

我们有一个内部的python脚本生成XD and PDF outputs from templates we have created. The original templates were very basic and only featured the World Imagery Basemap and Points that have geometric corrections applied during the script. Currently, we are undergoing efforts to improve these templates with additional authoritative layers. Such as: the USGS Geology. We created a new template and added this layer. But, the script is now failing to provide an output. It also doesn't produce an error when run from Idle. We are concerned it may be with the top section of the script which can be seen below: import os,os.path, math, sys import datetime import getpass import re import arcpy from arcpy import env from arcpy import mapping arcpy.env.overwriteOutput = True arcpy.env.addOutputsToMap = True #arcpy.GetParameterAsText(1) maplayers = [] # ["SGMC_Geology"] #arcpy.GetParameterAsText(2) But, this other section also looks like it could be causing some trouble: def loopThruMapDocs(map_templates_folder, projectnumber, maplayers): for root, dirs, files in os.walk(map_templates_folder): for mxd in files: if mxd.endswith(".mxd"): mapdoc = mxd filterByProject(projectnumber, mapdoc, map_templates_folder, maplayers) def loopThruMapLayers(mapdocument, dataframe, projectnumber): try: maplayers = arcpy.mapping.ListLayers(mapdocument,"SGMC_Geology*", dataframe) Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Any input would be truly helpful.

Thank you kindly for for reaching back. It's a single domain row that won't delete. We aren't trying to delete a field in the attributes. The deletion of an entire domain from the SDE is successful after it's no longer in use. But, not a single line item within a domain. Yes, we've been applied the domain domain usage tool. It's a fantastic feature that we've found very useful. Thank you very much for sharing.

Hello Joshua-Young, I wanted to kindly follow-up on this. We were able to get the domain changes to push through using ArcPro 2.7.2 for new fields. I stopped ALL services in order for this push to go through. We observed there is actually a delay in the new domains populating. So, we would stop all services on ArcGIS Server running the domain > apply changes in ArcPro > Save > Restart Services > the New field was still not seen > the next morning the new domains were there. The last item we are still working to address is the deletion of a domain field. This one has proved to be difficult as we keep getting a new set of errors thrown. Thank you kindly for all your advice!

Hello Joshua-Young Thank you so very much for this information. But, it certainly adds a level of complexity to the issue. I'm the GIS Systems Administrator at our organization and I just pushed out 2.7 a couple weeks ago to our virtual environment. I did not realize that it was expecting to connect to 10.9. I'm assuming if I roll back the install to 2.6 + patches, all our ArcPro Projects that have been upgraded to 2.7 will no longer open due to lack of backwards compatibility. Have you potentially experienced this? Thank you very much for sharing your learning with me. I'm very grateful.

Hello JakeSkinner, Thank you so very much for these insights! I had a case open with Esri recently where this was mentioned as an aside. I've also had troubles pulling in views and tables from SQL that I have connected to without issue before. Additionally, I'm getting an odd error thrown when I try and publish them that is entirely new to me. This behavior wasn't exhibited in 2.6. I have not tested editing in ArcMap, but I think we could try this. Thank you again!

你好Joshua-Young,非常感谢你this! So, it seems like my best bet/least amount of effort is to edit the existing domains. One of my favorite aspects of ArcPro was not needing to use the table to domain tool, and being to edit them within the domain view. However, if you say this tool has worked to edit an existing domain and get it to cascade to the feature service, that is something I'd like to test. I know you said you were working with only 1 feature service that was branch versioned. So, out of curiosity, do you think this workflow would be successful if say, 50+ feature services were calling the same domain that you were editing? Thank you for further explaining the 2nd process. That helped me connect the dots! I truly appreciate it.

Hello YeshiWangchuk, I would like to kindly offer my workflow for this as we use it to decommission our SDE's, but keep backups in file .GDB's. Export XML Workspace Document—Help | ArcGIS for Desktop You export it as an XML Workspace document. This workflow will maintain the schema of the SDE, and can be imported into a file .GDB. Please have a lovely day, and I hope this helps! Sincerely, DS_GIS

我们企业10.8.1运行SQL Server, running all our work in ArcPro 2.7, and have an SDE in place that is backing Field Efforts using ArcGIS Collector. In order to increase efficiency in the field we have created multiple coded domains for different fields. It was our goal to ensure that these wouldn't need to be changed in the future as a domain or field being altered is considered a schema change and means the feature service needs to be overwritten or re-published. Unfortunately, we now need to alter a few of the domains. And, at this point we have over 100 services running from this SDE. I have tried testing to see if we can change the domains without overwriting or re-publishing. Below are the steps I have tested. 1. Stopping all services that are using a certain domain > Altering the domain > Restarting the services = The result of this is that the changes don't come through and it registers the old domain 2. Stopping all services that are using a certain domain > creating an entirely new domain > swapping the old domain out for the new in desktop > restarting the service = the result of this is that no domain appears at all. If we stop the service again, and then swap it back to the old domain it will pull the old domain through. The other limitation is that we can't edit many of these domains as the feature services will cause schema locks. My current thinking is we need to create entirely new domains > assign them to the services 1-by-one > and overwrite them so we don't need to re-add them to all the maps. Before we go forward with this I wanted to kindly inquire of this community if anyone else had worked with domains that are published to 'live' data from an SDE? If so, would they happen to have any other suggestions of things I could try to make this more efficient please?
